What Persons Living with Dementia Wish Their Care Partners Knew
National Council of Dementia Minds
The presentation “What Persons Living with Dementia Wish Their Care Partners Knew” highlights the importance of choosing partnership over traditional caregiving for people living with dementia. Through personal stories, individuals emphasize the value of being supported, not managed, favoring care partners who collaborate, respect independence, and understand their needs. From family members to neighbors, care partners help maintain routines and dignity without taking over. The session will include a Q&A segment, giving the audience an opportunity to interact directly with the panelists, individuals living with dementia, offering a unique and personal perspective on care, support, and autonomy.
National Council of Dementia Minds is the first national 501(c)(3) organization founded and governed by people living with dementia. They include individuals with all types of dementia or mild cognitive impairment, including younger-onset dementias.
The groundbreaking mission of the organization is to develop and support a national corps of Dementia Minds groups—composed of people living with dementia—who foster education and dialogue among individuals with neurocognitive disorders, families, care partners, healthcare providers, researchers, and policymakers.
