BATON ROUGE, LOUISIANA – (MARCH 31, 2017) – Alzheimer’s Services of the Capital Area Executive Director, Barbara Auten, and Director of Services, Dana Territo, joined forces with Dr. Neila Donovan, LSU Speech and Communications Disorders Department, and social worker, Katherine Schillings, Hood Memorial Hospital, to present Success Stories of a Social Model Respite Center for Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care at the 2017 Aging in America Conference, which took place March 23 in Chicago, Illinois.
Their topic focused on how a respite center can provide significant components in helping caregivers avoid burnout and institutional care, while the care recipient enjoys a purposeful day in a non-threatening environment. Their session provided an essential guide for developing a successful best-practice, specialized, holistic respite day center model.
Hosted by the American Society on Aging, the annual conference is the nation’s largest gathering of a diverse, multidisciplinary community of professionals in healthcare, social service, government, business and philanthropy with expertise in providing services and products for older adults.
