KEYNOTE SPEAKER: ANNE L. FOUNDAS, MD, FAAN

Presenting: Alzheimer’s Disease Innovation: What have we learned in the past 20 years?

Dr. Anne L. Foundas, MD, FAAN is an academic physician-scientist with more than 25 years of experience specializing in brain aging, cognitive disorders, and memory health. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Wellesley College and her medical degree from Louisiana State University (LSU) in New Orleans. She completed residency training in Neurology at LSU and went on to pursue fellowship training in Behavioral Neurology and Neuropsychology at the University of Florida College of Medicine.

Dr. Foundas began her academic career at Tulane University School of Medicine, where she developed an interdisciplinary program focused on brain aging and brain development and served as Director of Residency Training. In 2008, she joined the LSU School of Medicine as Vice-Chair of Clinical Research, leading the Brain & Behavior Program to advance clinical care, research, and community education.

In 2013, Dr. Foundas became the inaugural Chair of Neurology at the University of Missouri–Kansas City School of Medicine and served as Medical Director of Neurology at Truman Medical Center. A highly accomplished clinical researcher, she has authored more than 200 scientific publications and secured substantial extramural funding throughout her career. She has also mentored numerous trainees who have gone on to become academic leaders.

Dr. Foundas currently serves as the Executive Director of the Brain Institute of Louisiana, Research Professor in the Department of Communication Sciences & Disorders at LSU in Baton Rouge, and Managing Partner of NOLA Brain and Behavior.

ELLEN DUNN MOUTON, LMSW

Presenting: Curating a Dementia-Friendly Environment.

Ellen Dunn Mouton, LMSW, is the Program Director at Alzheimer’s Services of the Capital Area. She holds a Master of Social Work and a Graduate Certificate in Gerontology from Louisiana State University. Ellen began with the organization as a graduate intern in 2017, joined the staff in 2019, and was promoted to Program Director in 2022. In her role, she oversees the planning, coordination, and delivery of educational and support programs for individuals living with dementia, their families, and professionals.

Ellen is a certified trainer in Teepa Snow’s Positive Approach to Care and co-chairs the Louisiana Department of Health’s Well-Ahead Task Group’s Educate and Empower Committee. She is passionate about developing meaningful, person-centered programs that respond to evolving community needs. Originally from Gonzales, Louisiana—where she now lives with her husband and their dog, Jackson—Ellen is dedicated to improving the quality of life for those affected by dementia.

CEU’s have been requested from the licensing boards of the following disciplines: Social Workers, Registered Nurses, Nursing Facility Administrators and Occupational Therapists. Approval of and number of hours approved will be posted here as approval is received. Healthcare disciplines not mentioned above may request a certificate of attendance after the conference by email to Brook at programs3@alzbr.org. If your discipline does not accept a certificate of attendance as proof of CEU’s, please contact Brook at programs3@alzbr.org or 225-334-7494 to discuss the possibility of applying for CEU’s through your licensing board.

• Social Workers: Six general hours of continuing education have been requested by Alzheimer’s Services of the Capital Area, a recognized approved provider by the Louisiana State Board of Social Work Examiners.
• Registered Nurses: Six contact hours have been applied for with Our Lady of the Lake (LSNA Provider #4002644*) for attendance of the entire program and completion of the post program evaluation.  * Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center is approved as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by Louisiana State Nurses Association – Approver, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. LSNA Provider No. 4002644.Alzheimer’s Services of the Capital Area and Our Lady of the Lake Professional Development are joint providers of this educational event.
• Nursing Facility Administrators: Six hours of continuing education have been requested for with the State of Louisiana Board of Examiners of Nursing Facility Administrators. A limited number of scholarships are available for NFAs. Contact Brook for information.
• Occupational Therapists: Six hours of continuing education requested by the Louisiana Occupational Therapy Association.
• Other healthcare disciplines: A certificate of attendance may be requested by email to Brook at programs3@alzbr.org for disciplines not mentioned above.
