Family Estrangement: Causes and Consequences for Older Adults at Risk for Social Isolation, Depression, and Dementia

Family Estrangement has reached epidemic proportions and older adults are often confused and unsure what to do next. For the older adult facing medical problems alone this can be a crisis. This Lunch-N-Learn will look at what are common causes and possible responses and actions for the parent and family.

Gina Rossi, LCSW-BACS, MHSA is a licensed clinical social worker in Louisiana for over 30 years. She has focused her practice in helping individuals and families and dealing with life transition issues.  Gina is an adjunct instructor for the LSU School of Social Work. Her dedication to training interns in the Gerontology program led to her 2017 induction into the LSU Hall of Distinction as the “LSU Alumnae of Distinction” for The School of Social Work. In 2018 Gina was the recipient of the 2018 “Public Servant of the Year” by the Governor’s Office for her work with the Louisiana Office of Aging.
