Music plays such an important role in our daily life, but have you ever wondered how it works? How does the presence of different sound waves in the air result in us feeling happy/sad, cause us to remember/relive past events, or make us want to move? This talk will give an informative and entertaining overview of how music and the brain interact, describe the basis for the emotion/memory changes that occur in response to music, and describe the implications of these findings for using music therapy in the future.
Dr. Jeffrey Keller, PhD is the founder and director of the Institute for Dementia Research and Prevention (established 2008) at the Pennington Biomedical Research Center. He is a world renown clinical researcher in the areas of cognitive function, aging, and dementia. Currently, he has over 200 peer-reviewed publications and 20+ years of continuous NIH funding. In addition to running and designing clinical trials for the NIH and pharmaceutical industry he works on a variety of projects designed to improve geriatrics and reduce the burden of dementia on society.
