Presenter: Jim Comer

Topic: How to Survive Caregiving with Sanity and a Sense of Humor, Part 2

Following his father’s stroke and his mother’s Alzheimer’s diagnosis, Jim Comer found himself a caregiver at the age of 51. He moved back to Texas after 30 years to tackle the most challenging and important job of his life. In fourteen years of caregiving – through hospitals, rehab centers, independent living, skilled nursing and hospice – Jim learned to deal with doctors, insurance companies, his father’s deafness and his mother’s worsening dementia. Jim will share how he learned to go into his parents’ world and accept them where they were, not where he wanted them to be. With laugh-out-loud humor, Jim shares moments for which there are no preparation. Jim will inspire, enlighten and entertain you as he shares how he not only survived caregiving, but formed a deeper, more intimate relationship with his parents.
